Backups + Restore

How to restore a backup with JetBackup 5.

JetBackup 5 is available inside cPanel and lets you restore or download backup data without waiting for a manual server restore. You can recover the whole account or target the files, databases or email data you actually need.

2

Choose What to Recover

Restore only the part you need.

JetBackup can recover different parts of the account. For most problems, restoring only the affected item is safer than restoring everything.

Website filesRestore individual files or folders from the Home Directory backup.
DatabaseRestore a selected MySQL or MariaDB database.
Email dataRestore a selected email account from an earlier backup.
Full accountUse only when you actually need the entire hosting account restored.
3

Backup Date

Choose a backup from before the problem.

JetBackup normally starts with one available snapshot selected. Use Choose Other Backup to select another available date.

Hostmate's JetBackup retention currently includes daily, weekly and monthly restore points, so there may be several dates available depending on when the data existed.

4

Restore or Download

Choose Restore to recover it on the server.

Restore puts the selected backup data back into the hosting account. Download prepares a copy that you can keep or inspect without immediately replacing live data.

Not sure whether to restore?

Use Download first when you want to inspect or keep a copy of the backup before changing the live account.

5

Queue

Wait for the restore job to finish.

JetBackup adds restore and download requests to its queue. You can monitor the job until it completes.

Do not repeatedly submit the same restore while the first job is still running.

6

After Restore

Check the website, database or mailbox.

Once the restore completes, check the affected service. For a website, load the site and administration area. For a database, confirm the application is working. For email, check Webmail and recent messages.

Need Help?

Not sure what should be restored?

If you are unsure which backup item or date to choose, open a Hostmate support ticket before restoring over live data.
