Email Help

How to reset an email password in cPanel.

If someone has forgotten the password for a hosted email account, you can set a new one from cPanel. You do not need to know the mailbox's existing password.

cPanel Email Accounts No old mailbox password required Webmail + mail apps
1

cPanel

Log in to cPanel.

Open cPanel through the Hostmate Client Area, or go directly to https://yourdomain.com.au/cpanel.

If you do not know the cPanel password, reset the cPanel password first from your Hostmate Client Area.

2

Email Accounts

Find the mailbox you want to update.

In cPanel, go to Email → Email Accounts.

Find the email address whose password you want to reset, then click Manage.

3

Security

Set a new email password.

In the mailbox management screen, find the Security section and enter a new password in the New Password field.

You can also use cPanel's password generator to create a strong password.

You do not need the old email password.

Because you are managing the mailbox from the main cPanel account, you can replace the mailbox password without knowing its existing password.

4

Save

Click Update Email Settings.

After entering the new password, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Update Email Settings.

The new password takes effect for that mailbox.

5

Update Devices

Enter the new password everywhere the mailbox is used.

Any device or application using the old password will need to be updated.

  • Webmail — use the full email address and the new mailbox password.
  • Outlook — replace the saved incoming and outgoing mail password where required.
  • iPhone / Apple Mail — update the account password when prompted or in the account settings.
  • Android / Gmail app — update the saved mailbox password for the account.
  • Other devices — update any computer, phone, tablet or mail program still using the old password.
6

Check It

Test the new password in Webmail.

A quick way to confirm the new password is working is to open https://yourdomain.com.au/webmail and sign in with the full email address and new password.

You can also open the mailbox from cPanel → Email Accounts → Check Email.

Still Having Trouble?

We can check the mailbox.

If the password has been reset but the mailbox still will not log in or send and receive mail, open a support ticket and include the affected email address.
