Backups + Restore

How to restore a database with Acronis.

Use Acronis in cPanel to recover a MySQL or MariaDB database from an earlier recovery point. You can restore over the original database or recover it as a new database with a suffix.

2

Recovery Point

Select the backup date and time.

Choose a recovery point from before the unwanted database changes or corruption occurred and wait while Acronis mounts the backup.

3

Databases

Open Databases and select the database.

Click Databases, then select the database you want to recover.

WordPress database?

If you are not sure which database belongs to a WordPress site, check the DB_NAME value in its wp-config.php file.

4

Original Database

Restore over the existing database.

To restore the database to its original name, make sure Add suffix to the recovered database name is not selected.

If offered, you can also choose to restore the associated database users. Click Recover to start the operation.

This overwrites the existing database.

Any newer database changes made after the selected recovery point can be lost.

5

New Database Copy

Recover as a new database instead.

If you want to preserve the live database, choose Add suffix to the recovered database name before recovery.

Acronis creates a new database using the original name plus the suffix, leaving the existing database unchanged.

6

Download

Download a database dump if you only need a copy.

Acronis can also prepare a database dump for download. This is useful if you want to inspect the backup or import it manually later instead of immediately restoring it over the live database.

After Recovery

Test the website or application.

Once recovery finishes, test the application that uses the database. If you restored a new suffixed copy, it will not be used by the website until the application's database configuration is deliberately changed to point to it.

Need Help?

Not sure whether to overwrite or create a new copy?

Open a Hostmate support ticket before recovering the database if you are unsure. Include the domain name and database name if known.
